I think one of the most important aspects of levelling up is what Danielle LaPorte calls “practicing good manners with yourself.”
We’re so used to giving ourselves that beat down internally that often we don’t even notice that the things we say to ourselves are sometimes so terrible that we would never say them to another person.
Right now I’m seeing a lot about self-care on social media and in magazines leading up to the holiday season (which is particularly challenging this year because of COVID).
From my perspective, the foundation of self care is treating yourself more kindly. This means taking a less judgmental approach to yourself, because without all of that judgment you actually feel a lot better. And when you feel good about yourself, that’s the state you need to be in to give yourself the best chance to level up or make whatever change you want to make.
The research on this also shows that self-acceptance is associated with better psychological health, greater resilience, more happiness and of course, a greater sense of optimism.
We could probably all use a little more of that right now 🙂
