After two long years I finally arrived back home in Canada to visit with my family and friends for two weeks. The last time I was here was in the midst of the pandemic in 2020 so needless to say, I have been looking forward to this ever since booking the tickets to come home.

As a High-Performance Coach and Social Media Manager, all of my work is done online and on my phone. It isn’t uncommon for me to be on the computer all day or for my nose to be in my phone when I’m away from the desktop.

This made me concerned about what being home would look like because even though I was going to be home, I wasn’t on vacation.

What once would have caused me great stress and anxiety has been the greatest benefit and has allowed me to be present: airplane mode.

Not being able to be accessible at all hours of the day has allowed me to make the most of my time while being home. As a result, I have had more quality time and deeper conversatiosn and connections with family and friends and I feel so grateful for the face time that I get with each of them.

Unplugging from the constant distractions and notifications has made it possible for me to be present and soak up all of the goodness that life has to offer and has served as a reminder to me that I don’t need a major reason to do this. Rather, it is something I can and should do whenever necessary.

I hope you take time to do the same for yourself.
