Today, let’s talk about something incredibly important: supporting
ourselves mentally while juggling the beautiful chaos of being a working
parent!
Being a parent is a superpower, but it’s essential to remember that
taking care of our mental well-being is equally important.
Here are some tips to help you stay mentally strong and rock your
parenting and professional roles like the superstar you are!
1. Prioritize self-care
Remember, you can’t pour from an empty cup! Take time for yourself, whether it’s reading a book, or enjoying a hobby. Not only do you deserve it, but recharging is essential in order for you to sustainably show up and have the impact that you desire to have both at home and at work.
2. Embrace the power of gratitude
Start your day by acknowledging three things you are grateful for and writing them down. This is a great way to direct your focus away from scarcity and towards abundance. Speaking from experience, this takes one minute to complete and can be a total game-changer in terms of how you start your day! Remember, what you focus on expands, so start your day with an attitude of gratitude!
3. Connect with fellow working parents
Surround yourself with a supportive community of like-minded parents who understand the unique challenges you face. Share experiences, offer advice, and lift each other up. Together, we are unstoppable!
4. Celebrate small victories
In the evening, write down three ‘victories’ from the day. Acknowledge and celebrate your achievements, no matter how small. Whether it’s completing a project at work or successfully managing a hectic day, give yourself a pat on the back. Keeping a victory log is a surefire way to sustain your motivation,
highlight your progress, and propel you towards continuous growth and
success!
5. Practice mindfulness
Take a moment each day to be fully present in the moment. Whether it’s through meditation, deep breathing exercises, or simply enjoying a quiet cup of coffee, allow yourself to recharge and find inner peace. Stepping off of the hamster wheel known as life (daily, even if only for a minute) is critical. It allows you to feel grounded, connected and present, which is important both at home and at work.
6. Ask for help when needed
Remember, it’s okay to ask for support! Reach out to your partner, family, or friends when you need an extra hand. Remember, you’re not alone in this journey, and there’s strength in seeking help. It takes a village.
7. Embrace imperfection
Let go of the pressure to be a perfect parent or employee. Remember that if you’re doing your best (given what you can control and your current energy levels and resources), that’s all you can ever ask of yourself! Embrace the beautiful messiness of life and give yourself grace. You’re doing an incredible job!
So, dear working parents, remember to prioritize your mental well-being.
By taking care of yourself, you’re setting a wonderful example for your
little ones and showing the world what a true superhero looks like!
Thanks, and happy leading folks!
